Q. How do you describe your connection with Eindhoven?
A. I grew up in Oirschot, which is about a fifteen minutes drive, but all my family lives in Eindhoven. Both my parents are from this beautiful city. Eindhoven has always been my go-2 city and now that I have lived there for about four years, I call it my hometown but it has always felt like that. In the last couple of years, I have seen Eindhoven blossom into a super atmospheric, friendly, creative city, and that has made me like it even more. You could say I always had a connection with this city.
Q. You picked some songs. What does this list mean to you? Why these tracks?
A. These songs hit me in certain places. There's a song by Gaidaa, who’s also from Eindhoven. She is slowly conquering the world with her beautiful voice. The song ‘Real Magic’ reminds me of a summer day and evening in the Stadswandelpark. ‘Mood’ a song from DVSN that really touched me when I first heard it. It makes me feel like things don’t matter, that you just have to enjoy it. It also drives you to love. My own song ‘Pijn’, which of course is a love story from Eindhoven but it also stands for all the pain that life lets you experience and to use it to grow. Each of these songs inspires and moves me and that's what I love, songs that do that to me.
Q. Which song describes Eindhoven for you? Why this song?
A. Real Magic by Ricky Reed. It starts slowly and smoothly and then it becomes very interesting and festive. Plus Eindhoven is the place where 'real magic' happens for me; here I build relationships with people, see my friends become beautiful people, learn about life and get into all kinds of situations that lead to magic. Eindhoven may seem a bit simple for people at first sight, but when you’re here you’ll see that it’s a super interesting and festive city with a beautiful innovative, and creative character. This song has all of that in it.
Q. What song always makes you cry?
A. Mood by DVSN, even though it's a super sensual song. The chords and the use of the voice, they make me feel emotional. It makes me feel for a while.
Q. What’s the best party song?
A. Dumebi of Jarreau Vandal and Rema, Jarreau is also a Dutch artist. When I hear this song in a cafe, club, or anywhere else, I am immediately activated. In a club, you're definitely going to lose me when they play this.
Q. Who would you like to do a duet with?
A. Hmmm, good question, if I may choose worldwide, then I would say Adele. The song Hometown Glory hit me when it came out. Her voice control is insane, one of my favorite voices of all time. Same for Billie Eilish, so I wouldn't mind a duet with her either haha.
