At the invitation of Pennings Foundation, he has curated an exhibition. It includes work by sixteen artists dear to him and about whom he wrote during his ED time. These are: Maarten Baas, Joost van Bleiswijk, Gijs van Bon, René Daniëls, Piet Hein Eek, Kiki van Eijk, Bart Hess, Hans van Hoek, John Körmeling, Aagje Linssen, Helma Michiels, Marc Mulders, Norbert van Onna, United Cowboys, Henk Visch and Jeroen Wand.
In addition, the series 'Onderweg' (On the road) is shown, a weekly column in the ED that Schoonen has been making since April 2020 together with photographer Kees Martens. He fantasizes freely with a photo that Martens has taken somewhere on the road in the region, always from the window of his car.
In July 2022, Rob Schoonen will leave as coordinator of the art editors at Eindhovens Dagblad (ED). Since joining that newspaper in 2001, he has interviewed countless artists and designers.
