A tip from Rik: Bottle Distillery

The Eindhoven-based Bottle Distillery was voted Distillery of the Year 2019 during the International Spirit Competition in Berlin. They started in the Schellensfabriek and outgrew it in a few years. Now, you can find them in an up-and-coming part of Eindhoven, namely the Kanaalzone. And you want to go there. Rik takes us along.

Pure quality

Bottle Distillery was founded in 2016 by Mark and Dianne Migchels after they were inspired while on holiday and decided to start their distillery. The couple makes small-scale and artisanal spirits, such as gin, beer brandy, and rum, and are very passionate about offering the best quality. To guarantee this, only the very best ingredients are used, and no flavors, aromas, or pigments are added to the process. The copper pot still is a real eye-catcher and the shining center of the tasting room. Rik explains that it is thoroughly cleaned between every batch to ensure the resulting taste is as pure as possible.

Workshops and tastings

Bottle Distillery is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays. You can also attend tastings and workshops every day of the week, where you learn (and taste) how to make gin, rum, or herbal liqueur. You will find different products in their shop, including beer brandy, which is a distillate from beer. Also, note the striking names, which are based on hard rock songs, such as South of Heaven by Slayer and Lucky Bastards by Eindhoven-based band Peter Pan Speedrock. The latter got a 94 (!) score from the jury in Berlin. Reason enough to go and taste it yourself!
