Share the Vibe: Tunes by Ray Elpee

The second Share the Vibe playlist is a collection from the owner of one of Eindhoven's most well-known record stores: Ray Elpee. Ray started his record shop low-key in 2001. For 10 years he has been an established name in the city and his shop is open every day, except on Sundays and Mondays.

Music career

Ray has been working in the music since he was 17. First at POPEI at the Zoutstraat and then at the Effenaar as a light and sound engineer. He was also the programmer for Cafe Altstadt for 10 years. In 1986 he started BAM BAM Agency, a booking office for bands and soloists. This included Life on Grey (with Peter from Peter Pan Speedrock), Gotcha, D.A.M.N., Osdorp Posse, Slagerij van Kampen, and City Pig Unit. The bands did support acts for big names like Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bad Brains, Rollins Band, and Ice Cube. At Buro Tape Agency and Buro MU, Ray was the programmer for Mr. van Dijck and the Vooruitgang.

Vinyl

During these years he also played vinyl at various cafes, such as De Bakkerij, Café de Groot, Cul de Sac, and Squale. Later Ray started working at Buro Mu and Buro Maastricht. He rolled into the Security Factory in 2001 and worked at Lowlands, Parkpop, Pinkpop, Ahoy, De Kuip, and Feyenoord. He has been running Ray Elpee full time for 10 years now.
