STRP Book club
The upcoming STRP Festival book club will discuss The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin. The book tells the story of Shevek, whose ancestors exchanged the planet Urras for the twin planet Anarres with the idea of building a new anarchic society. There are a limited number of spots available for the March 29 meeting, so register soon.
Van Piere
Bookstore Van Piere organizes several study clubs. The meetings all have a philosophical angle. At one club you'll be guided by a philosopher and read Hannah Arendt's political work, at another you'll analyze thinking and speaking about sexuality using Michel Foucault's Confessions of the Flesh.
The Wave
Feminist platform The Wave organizes a new book review every eight weeks. In the coming months, for example, Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo and The Embassy of Cambodia by Zadie Smith will be featured.
Queer Book Club
At the Queer Book Club you can read and discuss books and meet new people. Everyone is welcome! Also if you don't identify as LGBTQIA or queer. The club meets every four weeks at the Van Abbemuseum.
Spijkerman
Even after closing time, Stein Spijkerman stays busy with books. The owner of the bookstore on Kleine Berg leads several reading clubs in the city. Classical novels and new titles like Bonita Avenue by Buwalda or Oblomov by Goncharov pass by.
