Café Hubble | A Tip from Rik
This week’s Tip from Rik has been around since January 2017 and is located on the campus of the Technical University of Eindhoven. Student cafe Hubble is a cozy hangout, for and by students. Former TU/e student Rik tells us more.
Hubble the space telescope
Let’s start with a fun fact: the name 'Hubble' is a reference to the space telescope that has been operational since 1990, and today still remains in operation. You can find the cafe in a building that used to house the faculty of Electrical Engineering. Nowadays, it is a residential tower called Luna, a design by Diederendirrix. In addition to student housing of over 430 homes, Luna offers a lively mix of places such as a supermarket, a day-care centre, music and dance areas, a restaurant, and cafe Hubble.
Society members behind the tap
Hubble, also known as 'the living room of the campus,' is a multifunctional place: hurried students can stop by in the morning for a quick breakfast and night owls are able to join open mic nights until late at night. Several student societies have joined forces to support and co-run the cafe, so after 20:00 PM you can expect to be greeted by society members from behind the tap. But Hubble welcomes everyone. If you’d like to get a taste of Eindhoven's student life, Rik advises you to stop by and join them for a drink!
