Phases | Walls with paint
In "Walls with Paint", Eindhoven local, photographer, and art fan Lukedaduke shares the story behind a special street art project in Eindhoven. This month: the tunnel painting 'Phases' by French artist Russ.
Since a couple of years, the city of Eindhoven is restoring several tunnels and overpasses in the city.
This project is named “Tunnelvisie” (Tunnelvision) and the main goal is to restore and redecorate old tunnels, as many of these tunnels are experienced as unpleasant or even unsafe.
A visual upgrade should give these tunnels or overpasses a better appearance and a safer feeling to the users of the tunnels.
During the last couple of years, several tunnels and overpasses have been redecorated already. One of those overpasses is underneath the A2-highway at de Meerveldhovenseweg.
Treepack is an organization from Leuven (Belgium) that is invited to visually upgrade old buildings, neighborhoods and their surroundings. For this mural, named “Phases”, they invited artist Russ.
Russ is a visual artist from the south of France. He observes the living world around him and processes these observations in his illustrations, paintings, and murals.
When you ride your bike in the morning from Eindhoven to neighboring Veldhoven, you will be greeted by young, flowering life on a 75 meter long mural.
Cycling back to Eindhoven in the evening through the same tunnel, the day literally comes to an end.
Instead of simply a passage, your ride through the tunnel becomes an experience.
