When are you called a celebrity or a national hero in the Netherlands? If you have been on TV regularly? Or on another screen that shows television programs such as a PC, laptop, tablet or mobile phone? In addition to television programs, social media such as Facebook and YouTube also generate brand awareness.

For his research, George Meijers collected a couple of names from people born in Limburg who became famous as a politician, sportsman, entertainer, writer, musician, artist, actor, lawyer, etc. He then tried to figure out when he or she would appear on TV and he made sure to install his camera to photograph the person at that specific moment. That is, on a screen! He photographed screens in all kinds of locations where you can find them: in living rooms, in canteens, at the campsite, in the hospital, etc.
With this project, George Meijers focused not only on well-known Limburg people but also on the display culture of today.

In the exhibition a total of 27 'Limburg Heroes' are on show, among others Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, Chantal Janzen, Marcia Luyten, Paul van Loon, Ted Noten, André Rieu and Arnold Vanderlyde.

George Meijers (Stein, 1954) studied at the Social Academy in Sittard. He is a self-taught photographer. Human behavior plays an important role in his work. Recently he opened his own gallery, StonePhoto, in Stein (Limburg).
