Back in 1955, the Karpendonkse plas was created through sand extraction for the elevated railway line. The park around the lake was created in 1963 and was originally inspired by the forests around Eindhoven. As a result, you will find many native tree species, such as oak, poplar, alder, and rough birch.

In the northeast of the area, you will find the Eckartse forest. Old historical structures and avenue plantings from the 19th century can be found in this old deciduous forest.

On the Sumatralaan, the former farmhouse is one leftover from this area's peasant existence. Nowadays, you can have a delicious dinner here at The Harbour Club. And with stunning views over the Karpendonkse plas. The entire area hosts various festivals, such as Foodstock and Reggae Sundance. The natural swimming pool, the IJzeren Man, offers some nice refreshments on hot summer days.
