From tunnels and traffic control cabinets to entire facades: with street art on almost every corner, Eindhoven feels like one big open-air museum. Dive into the city and discover world-famous murals and other impressive street art with our tips.

De Berenkuil

One of the best places to spot street art and graffiti in Eindhoven is De Berenkuil. During events like Stylewarz, more than 150 artists come together to give the walls a fresh new layer of paint. This space is all about experimentation: expect every style, from raw typography and cartoons to lifelike portraits.

Echoes of Harmony

An absolute must-see: Echoes of Harmony by Studio Giftig, on the facade of Muziekgebouw. This mural was named the best mural in the world in 2024. It symbolizes the power of music to break down barriers and bring different worlds together, showing a street musician and a concert violinist who appear to embrace each other in the artwork. Nice detail: the man and woman in the artwork are actually father and daughter.

Fleks Machine

Graffiti artists FLEKS and MACHINE teamed up again after renovations at Area51 removed their earlier work. They made room for something new on the back of Area51, and that's how Fleks Machine came to life: a futuristic mural full of nods to local history. Look closely, and you'll spot old Philips devices, cassette players, and even electric razors hidden in the artwork.

Op handen gedragen

Less than two minutes away, you'll find 'Op handen gedragen' (Carried on hands) by Niels Bakkerus, made in collaboration with students from SintLucas, CKE, and the municipality of Eindhoven. Local residents actually posed for this mural: the artists painted their jewelry, sleeves, and tattoos in detail, so neighbors can recognize themselves and each other in the artwork. The hands seem to support the Strijps Bultje overpass itself.

Motion

The huge mural Motion came out of Studio Giftig's Music & Murals program. In each episode, they turn a song by a well-known Dutch artist into a unique mural connected to that artist, somewhere in the city linked to them. For Eindhoven, they chose musician Fresku. The mural is inspired by the lyrics of his song Motion

'If you can't harvest, you have to water your plants
And after watering, tomorrow we'll eat together'

From bottom to top, the mural shows the three stages of a plant: a seed, a growing plant, and a fully grown plant. These stages symbolize the past, present, and future, with the present standing out through its brighter colors. In every episode, the artists hide an easter egg specific to the artist. Fresku chose Obelix wearing a PSV shirt (the shirt of Eindhoven's football club), a comic book character who inspires him. Look closely at the hat, and you'll spot a small pin showing a zoomed-in detail of Obelix's shorts and the PSV shirt.

Eternal Love

Niels van Swaemen and Kaspar van Leek of Studio Giftig have worked together as a duo since 2012, turning dull corners into striking spots. They also took on the bare alley behind Nieuwe Emmasingel. Their mural Eternal Love makes you think: is love truly forever, or does it fade once one half of a couple is gone?

Tunnelvisie

During the large-scale Tunnelvisie project, the municipality transformed dull, gray, and unsafe bike tunnels and underpasses into colorful works of art. Two great examples are the bike tunnel at 18 Septemberplein and Vestdijktunnel. At 18 Septemberplein, Polish street artist 1010 took over the entire interior of the bike shed. The result is an optical illusion, full of 3D effects and colorful holes in the walls, creating a striking contrast with the concrete. Handhoven at Vestdijktunnel is a standout work by Studio Giftig. With this mural, they capture the city's diversity and different cultures. Looking back at the past while winking at the future, the tunnel at Vestdijk symbolizes a connection between the south and north of the city.

Galaxy

Look up, and you're face to face with an entire galaxy: angels, musical instruments, the big dipper, and countless other stars. Niels Bakkerus created this colorful mural, Galaxy, in Woensel-West, and didn't stop at the ceiling: the night sky continues across the walls around the stairwell and the glass railing. Step into the gallery and you'll feel like you're floating through the cosmos. And that's not all: the surrounding streets have plenty more street art to admire, like in the Volta Galvani neighborhood in Woensel-West. The colorful facades have a Mediterranean feel that matches the neighborhood's international identity, making residents feel even more connected to where they live.
