6x Restaurants for your bucket list

The restaurants are open again! The perfect time to make a bucket list of new restaurants to discover in 2022. Last year, some gems opened that you may not have visited yet, and a few more will open soon. Be sure to put them on your list!

Authentic Chinese food at You Ning

At Strijp-S, on the Torenallee, you will find the Chinese Pavilion, which includes tea house and restaurant You Ning. This special building was a gift to Eindhoven from sister city Nanjing. Unfortunately for top chef Eveline Wu, who rules the kitchen, her restaurant had to close shortly after the opening due to the COVID restrictions. Chances are that you have not yet been able to enjoy her authentic Chinese cooking. No babi pangang or nasi here, but culinary masterpieces that show the enormous wealth of Chinese cuisine and culture.

Airfryer fries at De Frietaire

From culinary highlights from China to crispy highlights from the airfryer. At De Frietaire on the Nieuwe Emmasingel, they fry everything in gigantic custom-made airfryers. Hence the name, in case you didn't immediately connect the dots. The interior also takes you to new heights, because everything is in a kind of retro air balloon theme. A great place to really sit down and enjoy your semi-healthy sins. As such, De Frietaire surpasses the level of an ordinary snack bar, and deserves its spot on our list. Not that there's anything wrong with regular snack bars, check out our list of places for next level fries

Luigi’s masterful burgers

Okay, Luigi's is not really new. In fact, this burger joint has been a household name in Eindhoven since 2015 - at least for people who live near the Boschdijk. Luigi's relocated from the Marconilaan to Stratumseind at the beginning of this year, so now many more people can discover their culinary burgers. In their new restaurant, you'll find the classics, but also plenty of burgers with a twist. How about a quattro formaggi burger with spicy orange ginger jam? Madness! Vegetarians and flexitarians can also find their burger heart's content here. Luigi's serves a Beyond Meat burger and an eggplant parmigiana burger. Delicious!

Vegan Valhalla at Vegan Junk Food Bar

We realize that some of the suggestions on this list aren’t necessarily suitable if you wish to start working on your summer body (although we’re team ‘every body is a summer body’). But at least the Vegan Junk Food Bar (VJFB for friends) is good for the planet, so you'll hit some of your New Year's resolutions after all. Here, you'll enjoy all kinds of junk food, but plant-based. Vegan loaded fries, burgers, spare ribs, bitterballen, even calamari! VJFB is ready to go and will open as soon as possible on the Kerkstraat. In the meantime, you can feast your eyes on their menu.

+1 for Piet Hein Eek's culinary emporium

Piet Hein Eek is rapidly evolving into a true king of hospitality, with his restaurant, hotel, bar and French fry shop on Strijp-R. Piet's latest project is a Grand Café, on the site of his old restaurant. The Grand Café will have an intimate and relaxed atmosphere, if we are to believe the messages on Piet Hein Eek's Instagram (we do). It will also have a space for private dining and parties. If everything goes according to plan, Piet's Grand Café will open at the end of spring. Get ready!

Fine dining at The Harbour Club on the shores of the Karpendonkse Plas

We're concluding this list in style with a highly anticipated restaurant. After Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague among others, Eindhoven is now getting its very own 'The Harbour Club'. It's nowhere near a harbour, but it does offer a fantastic view of the Karpendonkse Plas. Moreover, seafood is their specialty, so we can just imagine we're in a trendy port city. This restaurant is in the old Karpendonkse Hoeve. They have turned the old farm completely inside out with a thorough makeover. We are very curious to see what it will look like! Follow The Harbour Club Eindhoven on Facebook if you don't want to miss the opening!
