20 Wheelchair-Friendly Spots in Eindhoven

Eindhoven has no shortage of great restaurants, hotels, and things to do. Still, not every place is equally accessible. And nothing kills the mood of a fun day out quite like an unexpected threshold. So, we’ve rounded up twenty wheelchair-friendly places in Eindhoven where you can go without having to worry, whether you use a wheelchair yourself or you’re heading out with someone else and just want to know things are properly arranged. And the best part: these places are not only accessible, they also have an adapted toilet.

A small disclaimer: we compiled this list based on information from the venues themselves and platforms that review accessibility. Missing a place, or spotted something that isn’t right? Let us know.

Wheelchair-friendly food & drink

Whether you’re heading out for an early breakfast, settling in for a long lunch, or having dinner at one of Eindhoven’s most iconic spots, these wheelchair-friendly restaurants, cafés, and coffee places are a good place to start.

Coffeelovers

Is it time for coffee and cake yet? Then Coffeelovers is a great pick. The café is easy to reach via the lift inside Boekhandel Van Piere. Feeling hungry? Go for something savoury, like a warm Italian focaccia, a toastie, a salad, or a bowl of soup. A good option for lunch or an afternoon snack

Grand Café De Lichttoren

From early morning until late at night, Grand Café De Lichttoren is a good spot for breakfast, lunch, drinks, or dinner, in one of the city’s most iconic buildings. The restaurant is located in Philips’ former light bulb factory, and you can still clearly see that industrial past in the interior. Thanks to the large open spaces, it’s also easy to move around in a wheelchair.

Anne & Max – Strijp-S

If you’re in the mood for an extensive breakfast or lunch, head to Anne & Max on Strijp-S. The restaurant is located in the brand-new Donna building, recognisable by the bright yellow lettering on the façade. Anne & Max is on the ground floor, so you can roll straight in. Go for the high tea, with scones, pastries, and generously filled Italian sandwiches.

Fifth

During the day, Fifth serves lunch and fresh coffee roasted locally by Sprout, the coffee roastery in the same building. In the evening, you’ll find meat and fish dishes like entrecôte, lamb stew, or plaice with Mediterranean vegetables, alongside vegetarian options such as agnolotti with pear and walnuts. On Saturday evenings, the restaurant turns into a jazz bar during Saturday Night Live. Tip: keep an eye on Fifth’s agenda, as they regularly host special events alongside their recurring jazz nights.

Loetje

More in the mood for a quick bite? Loetje gets that. Their famous steak with Loetje gravy lands on your table in no time. Other favourites include chicken satay with atjar and the classic schnitzel with pepper cream sauce. For a steak restaurant, Loetje also has a surprisingly wide range of vegetarian dishes. The beet burger is a good one, and there’s also a poké bowl, salade niçoise, and even a fully plant-based steak with Loetje gravy on the menu. The wheelchair-friendly entrance is at the back of the building, near the car park, so you won't have to search.

STR’EAT Bars & Kitchens

At STR’EAT bars & kitchens on Strijp-S, you’ll find everything under one roof. There are more than ten kitchens to choose from, ranging from Arabic mezze to Mexican tortillas and loaded fries. Handy if you’re going out for dinner with a bigger group, or if everyone is craving something different. Coming by car? Park on the Klokgebouw side, as that’s where you’ll find the wheelchair ramp.

Ketelhuis

What will it be: lunch, coffee, drinks, or dinner? Ketelhuis has something for every moment of the day. From small bites to share, like gyoza or bitterballen, to a more substantial dinner with bavette or pointed cabbage and a local beer. Also good to know: there’s a wheelchair ramp at the side of the building.

Tip: combine your visit with the monthly Feel Good Market on Ketelhuisplein.

Restaurant 1910

Restaurant 1910 is located on lively Wilhelminaplein. Here, you can enjoy European meat and fish dishes, vegetarian plates, and good wines. The plates are beautifully presented, with plenty of attention to detail and flavour. You can keep it as simple or elaborate as you like, with a two- to six-course menu or your own à la carte selection.

Kazerne

Design and fine dining make a pretty great combination, if you ask us. And once you step inside this former marechaussee barracks, you’ll immediately see why. Throughout the year, Kazerne combines art and design with a modern Italian menu. The building is fully wheelchair-friendly, with adapted facilities that make visiting easy.

Wheelchair-friendly activities in Eindhoven

From family outings to evenings out with friends, here are a few places in the city worth checking out.

Parktheater

Up for a night at the theatre with the family? Parktheater has dedicated wheelchair spaces. You can also rent hearing assistance equipment, so everyone can enjoy the show comfortably. Check Parktheater’s agenda for upcoming performances.

Effenaar

Effenaar is Eindhoven’s best-known music venue, hosting everything from singer-songwriters and rock bands to hip-hop nights and dance parties. Wheelchair users can use the wheelchair platform. These tickets don’t cost extra, but do book in time, as availability is limited.

PSV Stadium

Does Philips Stadion feel like your second home? Then you’ve probably already claimed your regular spot. If you’re visiting for the first time, here’s what you need to know: wheelchair spaces and companion seats are located in the front rows of the South and West stands. A great view, close enough to spot the sweat on the players’ foreheads.

Dynamo

Dynamo is the place where rock, metal, dance, and urban music come together. But fans of other genres will also find plenty to like here. Besides concerts, Dynamo hosts workshops and all kinds of events related to sport, gaming, and art. With the exception of the exhibition space, all rooms are wheelchair-accessible.

Natlab

Natlab is a cinema and theatre with a broad programme of films and events. Before or after your screening, you can stop by the café for a drink. The building is fully step-free, has wide passageways, and welcomes assistance dogs. In summer, the courtyard turns into an open-air cinema.

Van Abbemuseum

The modern art collection is impressive, but it’s the experimental exhibitions, where you can not only look at art, but also smell it, feel it, and listen to it, that make the Van Abbemuseum stand out. The museum also puts a lot of thought into accessibility, with wheelchair-friendly routes, audio tours, lifts, adapted toilets, and even loan wheelchairs.

Klokgebouw

Klokgebouw hosts dozens of concerts, performances, and festivals every year, ranging from techno and dance events to design and culture festivals such as Dutch Design Week, Manifestations, and True Blue Tattoo. The music programme is varied and easy to combine with a city trip. Big events like We Are Electric, Verknipt, and Awakenings have all taken place here. Most events have a wheelchair platform, but it’s always worth checking with the organiser in advance.

WestCord Hotel Eindhoven

At WestCord Hotel on Mathildelaan, design lovers will feel right at home. Not surprising, really, given the look and feel of the rooms. The hotel has adapted rooms with extra space, so manoeuvring a wheelchair is easy. Another plus: you’re in the heart of the city within five minutes.

Hotel The Match

Hotel The Match is right in the centre of town, surrounded by trendy restaurants, lively bars, and nice boutiques. The hotel itself is pretty Instagram-worthy too, with bold furniture and striking murals in both the lobby and the rooms. The team is happy to help find a room that suits your needs. Coming by car? Let them know in advance if you’d like to use an adapted parking space.

On the ground floor, you’ll find an adapted room with a wheelchair-friendly bathroom, including an open shower, shower seat, toilet with grab rails, and wide doorways. Bonus tip:

Check in advance where the accessible parking spaces are nearby, to avoid unnecessary stress. The Valide Parkeren website shows exactly where you can park. And the ParkerenPlus app is also a useful option for anyone with a disabled parking permit.
