Walls with Paint: FLEKS

In 'Walls with Paint,' Eindhoven local, photographer, and art fan Lukedaduke shares the story behind a special street art project in Eindhoven. This month: a futuristic work by FLEKS at Area51.

With the summer coming to an end, only a few more murals are expected in Eindhoven. Still, the observant viewer will have noticed the addition of new, colorful ones on the streets. Including the work of artist FLEKS at Strijp-S, painted on the walls of Area51.

FLEKS is a graffiti artist from the Eindhoven area who decided to broaden his horizons in 2011. He went on a world trip, but before he left, he created a massive mural at Area51 titled "This Is My City" in the style of the video game Grand Theft Auto. This mural brightened the facade of the skate hall for many years.

Meanwhile, the city of Taipei is his new home, and Area51 has been renovated, so the mural unfortunately disappeared. Luckily, a spot has been cleared at the back for a new mural in collaboration with MACHINE, another graffiti artist from Eindhoven.

The wall has been given a futuristic city as a background with a colossal robot as its subject. The robot, built from Philips devices, steps on a mountain of old other devices. For example, you can recognize a cassette player or a Philips shaver.
