The ‘oliebol’ is a Dutch baked good that is traditionally eaten on New Year’s Eve. The New Year’s Eve festivities aren’t complete without this slightly sweet fried dough ball. Get yours at one of these spots!
Hoving Gebakwagens
The Hoving pastry stalls can’t be missed throughout the city. The most recognizable place must be on 18 September Square, right next to the Blob. Besides the traditional oliebollen, also available with currants, you can get dough balls filled with your favorite candy bar. You'll also find their stalls on Trudoplein and Market Square.
Bakkerij Renders
For many years, Bakkerij Renders has been a household name in Eindhoven. The family business has been here since 1944 and still bakes fresh bread, cakes, and other delicacies daily. On New Year's Eve, they'll spoil you with fresh oliebollen. Tip: Take a lovely winter walk in the nearby Stadswandelpark. This way, you earn yourself a new years snack.
Bierens de Wit
Also, you can get Oliebollen and other delicacies at Shopping Center Woensel again this year. You can find the Bierens de Wit stand opposite the Lidl. So, you do well to keep one hand free while shopping.
Stadsbakkerij Broodt
Organic oliebollen, which you can't stay away from, you get them at Stadsbakkerij Broodt. You go here for traditional and organic bread the whole year, and on December 30, you can get fresh oliebollen. While you're there, pick up a loaf of sourdough bread. Delicious!
IJssalon Boschdijk
This year, the ice cream parlor at the Boschdijk once again transformed into a baker. In December you won’t find any ice cream on display, it’s all baked goods. One of their specialties is 'oliebol on a stick'. And that’s not all! If you’re a lover of the Spanish doughnuts called Churros, you are the right place here.
