Walls with Paint: Aesthetics of Motion

In 'Walls with Paint', Eindhoven local, photographer, and art fan Lukedaduke shares the story behind a special street art project in Eindhoven. This month: the dynamic work on Noord-Brabantlaan, better known as Aesthetics of motion.

SLAK and PETRO are two Russian graffiti artists that visited Eindhoven in 2018 and painted an overpass at the Noord-Brabantlaan at the invitation of the City of Eindhoven.

As the title already explains: it is about the beauty of motion. The movement on the overpass inspired the artists: pedestrians, cyclists, mopeds, busses, and motor vehicles.

They found more inspiration in the overpass itself and the Van Abbemuseum, where they admired the art of fellow Russian artist El Lissitzky.

The Van Abbemuseum had a large selection of original works of El Lissitzky in its collection. During the Twenties of the last century, El Lissitzky’s work related to the oeuvre Dutch artist Piet Mondriaan. These artists were looking for new imagery that showed a new reality.

As a photographer, I sure had a lot of fun photographing this mural and its passers-by, creating a whole new reality.
