Walls with Paint: Urban Sportpark 't Schoot

In 'Walls with Paint', Eindhoven local, photographer, and art fan Lukedaduke shares the story behind a special street art project in Eindhoven. This month: a new coat for Sportpark 't Schoot by an international group of graffiti artists.

Step In The Arena has been one of the most prominent graffiti festivals in Europe for over ten years already. Due to COVID-19, it's still unsure if there will be a 2020 edition, but if so, the organization has September in mind for it.

The edition of 2018 was one of the hottest so far, with temperatures over 30 °C. The organization arranged some extra walls just outside De Berenkuil, the ones at Sportpark 't Schoot. The walls of the old sports canteen and dressing rooms of the soccer club LEW could use a makeover.

Step in the Arena has been one of the biggest graffiti festivals for over a decade

In 2017, the city of Eindhoven erected an Urban Sportpark at the old soccer pitch. There are devices for survival running and calisthenics. When practicing the latter, you perform strength exercises on a racked device.

The old canteen and dressing rooms already had paint on them, but the city wanted something bigger and more suitable. An international group of graffiti artists, like CHAS, FLEKS, SHANE RESER, amongst others, spend the day after SITA'18 to give the walls a makeover.

The variety in style and technique had the same color scheme, so there was still a form of unity.

It was a nice graffiti jam with a great result. As it looks now, it's just a matter of waiting before another one gets hosted.
