GLOW route 2023: 5x Starting points

The Beacon, GLOW 2022

The time has come again. From 11 November to 18, Eindhoven will be in the spotlight of GLOW. And yes, you can walk the familiar route through the city again this year. Of course, you decide where to start your route, but we would like to help you on your way. Check the six best starting points for GLOW 2023 here.

View the route

Emmasingel

If you come by train, you are in luck. Because the station is a perfect starting point for your GLOW adventure. Just cross the street and you will get a warm welcome on Emmasingel by a couple of light art works:

  • Rhythm: Everything is connected, no matter how big or small. We all live to the same rhythm and this work of light art lets you experience just that.
  • Evolution of Life: A spectacle of image and sound that transforms the Emmasingel and the surrounding icons into a literal urban jungle.
  • The Trans Realities Manufacturing Company: What do the designs of a fictional lighting products company look like? In the area between the Emmasingel and Lichtplein, you imagine yourself among alien machines and bizarre inventions.

Address: Emmasingel 6

Wilhelminaplein

Wilhelminaplein also lends itself as a great starting point. It's also the perfect place to kick-off your night, and you can continue your walk through district de Bergen from here. Let's highlight two works for you:

  • Grand Mix: No, you have not ended up in a karaoke bar, you are part of the work Grand Mix where singing and dancing are part of the light show. Uh, is that Vincent van Gogh singing? Yes it is!
  • Pulse: From Wilhelminaplein, you can already see Pulse shining its light on Heilige Geeststraat and Prins Hendrikstraat. Sparkling, glowing and pulsing, during GLOW it is the homes on these streets that present themselves as works of light art.

Address: Wilhelminaplein

Warm up inside!

After a long round of viewing impressive light installations, you are probably ready to have a break. Throughout the route you will find cozy spots to warm up with some mulled wine or a hot chocolate. We've selected five to check out yourself.

Sounds good!

Anne Frankplantsoen

Walking enthusiasts know: the Anne Frankplantsoen is a pretty nice place to walk, but during GLOW, even more so. During the festival  the park turns into the backdrop for a spectacular light show by the following works:

  • Eye of the Storm: Sometimes, life is superchaotic, which is why Eye of the Storm (a work created by engineering students at Fontys) challenges you to step out of the whirlwind for a moment and seek peace in the eye of the storm.
  • GLOWBLE: A giant sphere in the middle of the park that calls for human interaction and the connection between people. Can you and your fellow visitor decipher the meaning behind this huge work of art?

Address: Anne Frankplantsoen

Van Abbemuseum

On the edge of the city center, you start at the Van Abbemuseum, where you can admire two works this year:

  • Primary: For Richard Bolhuis' installation, you even get to go inside the Van Abbemuseum, where several rooms are awash in sound and a magenta-colored glow.
  • Papertrails: Nostalgic as can be: paper planes. Once, they were nothing more than temporary entertainment, during GLOW they take on new meaning as signposts.

Address: Stratumsedijk 2

DOMUSDELA

Another ideal starting point is DOMUSDELA, one of the loops on the route. That means you can admire several works of light art on the grounds through the site. At Brasserie Rita (one of the official GLOW-hosts), found in the DOMUSDELA complex, you can also kick off the evening with dinner or coffee first. Anyway, on to the works. We listed them for you:

  • Beacon: In the DOMUSDELA park, you will find the work Beacon, which you may recognize from last year. The travelling work takes on a new guise in each location and now shines a new light on Eindhoven.
  • Ik zie, ik zie: A huge sea of flowers consisting of hundreds of handmade(!) flowers by elementary school children. Spectacular!

Address: Kanaalstraat 4
