The gates of Landgoed De Wielewaal are finally swinging open to the public – and we’re throwing a party to celebrate! Lichtbos Vibes is happening September 27 & 28, packed with surprising (sports) activities, live music, and fine dining. The best part? Almost everything is free! Mark those dates—you won’t want to miss this.
Wiele-what?
First, a quick history lesson. Back in 1912, the Philips family bought this massive 142-hectare estate—that’s about 200 soccer fields! For over a century, it stayed private. But in 2022, the city of Eindhoven took over with one goal: turn it into a public space for everyone. Now, for the first time in 100+ years, you can explore this hidden piece of Philips' heritage.
What’s Lichtbos Vibes?
In 2024, Eindhoven’s city forest—home to De Wielewaal, De Grote Beek, and Philips de Jonghpark—got a new name: Lichtbos Eindhoven. Since most locals have never set foot here, they’re throwing a huge celebration for the opening! Lichtbos Vibes is bursting with activities for all ages, hosted by local clubs and entrepreneurs, such as the scouting group, De Grote Beek, and the Voedselbos (Food Forest).
Nature & Culture
Get ready for a mix of nature and culture! Join guided tours on flora and fauna, try wild foraging in the food forest, or catch a movie about the Philips dynasty at NATLAB. Art lovers can immerse themselves in Kunstival, and photography enthusiasts can learn how to capture the perfect shot during golden hour.
Prefer a quiet stroll? Wander through historic gardens and monumental buildings from the 1920s—and keep an eye out for deer, foxes, or even a kingfisher!
Do you hear heavenly melodies in the distance? Then wander into the Pinetum Garden, spread out your blanket, and enjoy the open-air classical performance. Drift away in a fairytale-like setting. After that, head over to the Parktheater, where Skypunch Collective takes you into a world of dance, sound, and visuals. Or make your way to Elburglaan, where—alongside Kunstival’s cultural program—you’ll find a musical party with multiple stages and jam sessions.
Extra tip: Some activities require tickets or sign-ups, so check the website first! And remember: to keep the park peaceful, some areas stay closed—no mountain bikes, motor vehicles, or big events. Dogs are welcome on a leash from 9:00 to 10:00 in the morning.
This guide is full of sustainable tips for anyone who likes to be kind to the planet. And to themselves, because sustainable choices are often the best choices, if you ask us. So get that vintage look, hop on your bike and explore the greenest side of Eindhoven, literally and figuratively.
